Pathology

The Department of Pathology was one of the 3 initial departments when the Faculty was founded. In 1963, the department was split into two departments: Department of Pathology and Department of Microbiology & Parasitology.

The vision of the department is to integrate learning and development of students skills in pathology.

The department provides advice, consultancy and services to community. It also responses to the pressing needs for trained and skilled technicians in the field. However, qualifying professional for teaching and diagnosis of diseases is one of its main objectives. Beside teaching interdisciplinary research is also undertaken.

The department also offers graduate studies leading to award of MSc, MVSC and Ph.D.

Courses offered by the Department:

General pathology:

The nature & causes of disease, post mortem changes, degeneration and infiltrations, pigmentation, necrosis, circulatory disturbances, inflammation, regeneration and repair of tissues, disturbances of growth, neoplasia and immunopathology.

Systemic Pathology:

The special pathology of the circulatory, digestive, respiratory, urinary, reproductive, haemopoietic, locomotary, nervous and endocrine systems and the skin & its appendages . A practical course to demonstrate the various conditions.

Morbid Anatomy:

Necropsy techniques of large & small animals, description of lesions and writing of reports, necropsy hygiene, collection of materials for laboratory investigations, histopathology, bacteriology...etc.
